Brands, component factories, OEM, Demand for laptops is positive in the third quarter

In the first half of this year, laptop supplies have also been affected by a chip shortage.

But according to foreign media reports, Industry chain personage recently revealed that the current chip supply situation has been improved, so the supply capacity of notebook manufacturers will be enhanced accordingly, and more existing orders is expected to be completed in the third quarter.

They also analyse that top brand suppliers such as HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer and Asustek Computer have turned to sourcing chips in shortage directly by themselves, rather than through ODM. This helps to shorten the component procurement process while giving suppliers more flexibility and control over supply chain management.

On the component side, vendors of laptop components, including connectors, power supplies and keyboards, remain optimistic about their shipments in the third quarter of this year, despite concerns about declining orders for laptop chips.

In addition, brand suppliers and ODMs have been changing product designs since the second half of 2020 to minimize the impact of tight supply. Although key components such as power management and audio codec ICs are not replaceable, the replacement of certain ICs can still facilitate the shipment of some notebook models. Most ODMs expect their shipments to increase in June from the previous month and remain optimistic about demand in the third quarter as well. Digitimes Research expects ODM shipments to grow 1-3% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter.

Due to the epidemic, there has been a significant increase in the demand for home work and study equipment, such as laptop computers. The demand for laptop computers is strong, so laptop manufacturers are also facing a lot of supply pressure. A previous report showed that last year global laptop shipments exceeded 200 million units for the first time, which is setting a new high.

Industrial chain personage has previously revealed that consumer demand for notebook computers is still strong this year, which pulls up the demand for chips, panels. Shipments of laptop panels are expected to grow 4.8 percent year on year this year, and suppliers have set higher shipment targets.
